The Tokoroa Skatepark expands on the existing youth park in Tokoroa bringing a variety of new skate features to the lower Waikato region. Design details within the facility links to the forestry industry that is prevalent in the area with installation of more 'Talking Poles' put forward for the future development of the park.
A number of standard features including grind boxes, rails, quarterpipes and pyramids were developed through the main street skating area with a flow bowl and series of rollovers in adjacent locations. A Skateable Art piece was also included in the design to provide a distinguishable feature to the streetscape and connect with the Leith Place redevelopment in the town centre.
Skatepark integration with the pedestrian flow through the park was put forward by RICH Landscapes through effective separation techniques to blur the boundaries between active and passive spaces while providing greater space for the facility to make use.
"The facility was elongated due to the characteristics of the site. The Skate Path was a great idea that allows for a 120m long flow line with a diverse range of obstacles."
