Project Details

The Riverhead Skatepark redevelopment at Riverhead War Memorial Park reflects our commitment at RICH Landscapes to create skate environments that blend seamlessly with their surroundings while prioritising cost-effectiveness and usability. In this project, we’re excited to bring together innovative design, local artistry, and a dynamic array of features to serve the Riverhead community.

Specifying FLOW Features for Cost-Effective Design

To achieve an optimal balance of functionality and budget, RICH Landscapes has designed an insitu concrete environment with Miniramp, Quarterpipe and Bank Setup while specifying the FLOW product line to minimise construction costs while maximising versatility. The FLOW series includes a range of skateable features that provide both beginner-friendly and advanced options: a skateable stair unit, wollie bank and ledge, bank to ledge, learner ledge, rollovers, grind rail, skate kerbs, and a kicker. Each element has been thoughtfully selected to encourage progression, making the park accessible to users at all levels, while keeping the design engaging and challenging.

Integrating Local Art

To add a unique cultural touch, a sculpture by renowned artist Levi Hawken will be installed adjacent to the kicker. This piece will act as a feature to trick over, merging art and functionality in a way that enhances both the skatepark’s aesthetics and skaters’ experience. By incorporating Hawken’s work, Riverhead Skatepark also celebrates Aotearoa’s creative spirit, making it a true community landmark.

Aesthetic and Community-Centred Design

Our design emulates the wet pour safety surfacing of the adjacent playground, using FLOW resurfacing techniques to create a cohesive look across the park. This approach provides visual continuity within Riverhead War Memorial Park, tying the skatepark’s modern, functional appeal with the playground’s welcoming aesthetic.

Through this project, RICH Landscapes is proud to support Auckland Council’s vision for Riverhead by delivering a community-focused, sustainable design that harmonises with local art and park aesthetics. The Riverhead Skatepark is set to be a welcoming and exciting destination for skaters of all ages and skill levels.

"The facility was elongated due to the characteristics of the site. The Skate Path was a great idea that allows for a 120m long flow line with a diverse range of obstacles."
